After a successful edition of the Copenhagen User Group Meeting in March, we have the pleasure of inviting our US community to join the East Coast edition of this get together in the fall.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Sharrol Bachas, Ph.D.

CSO & Co-founder, Onava

Sharrol Bachas, Ph.D., is a protein engineer and biotech executive working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and experimental biology. He is the Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Onava, where he leads the development of an AI–human–lab-in-the-loop platform for functional protein design. His work focuses on tightly integrating generative models with rapid screening technologies to accelerate the discovery of therapeutics that meet real-world requirements for binding, specificity, developability and biological function.

Previously, Dr. Bachas helped build rapid, multidisciplinary AI-wetlab workflows at EvolutionaryScale and led antibody engineering and structural biology teams at Absci, contributing to multiple programs now in clinical or IND-enabling development. Trained as a structural biophysicist, he completed postdoctoral research at the NIH and earned his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also served on the Scientific Advisory Board of Sphere Bio, supporting the integration of microfluidics and AI for next-generation protein discovery.

USER PRESENTATION

Rana Sidhu

Protein Characterization Lead, UCB

Dr. Rana Sidhu is the UCB US Protein Characterization Lead with expertise in protein biochemistry, structural biology, enzymology, and biophysical characterization. He earned degrees in biology, pharmacology and therapeutics, and biochemistry in Canada before completing postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan. Prior to joining UCB, Rana led a Protein Core team developing protein reagents through molecular cloning, expression, purification, and assay development. In his current role, he is engaged in early target discovery and leads cross-functional characterization strategies to support drug discovery programs.
